Asia Tech Wire (June 21) -- Xiaopeng He, chief executive officer of Chinese electric car maker Xpeng Inc. (XPEV:NYSE), experienced Starlink and Tesla's FSD capability during his U.S. visit.

He posted on Chinese social media platform Weibo on Friday that he had experienced SpaceX's Starlink Internet service in San Francisco.

A picture showed that his iPhone 15 Pro Max measured a download speed of 321 Mbps and an upload speed of 28.5 Mbps for Starlink.

He marveled at the speeds that Starlink can provide, but said that the "only trouble" with the device is that "you have to [leave it] out in the open and you have to manually look for satellites."

In addition, he felt that Starlink was "a little pricey."

The day before, He said on Weibo that he planned to test the latest version of FSD and a Waymo version during this longer trip to the U.S.

However, he said he only had the Tesla FSD V12.3.6 version and hoped to borrow the latest 12.4.1 version.

Xpeng has been focusing on smart driving research and development, investing 3.5 billion yuan a year into its smart driving business.

The company announced in May that its smart driving system for urban areas, Xpeng Navigation Guided Pilot (XNGP), has fully entered the mapless navigation era.

In response to a news story reporting that He was testing the Tesla FSD in the U.S., Tesla CEO Elon Musk commented on social media platform X, "The Chinese automakers are by far the most competitive."

Tesla operates an electric vehicle manufacturing and export center in Shanghai, China, and is currently trying to roll out its FSD to Chinese consumers.
