Former Tesla supercharger head joins Uber
Sep.2,2024

Asia Tech Wire (Sep 2) -- Uber has hired former Tesla executive Rebecca Tinucci to oversee the ride-hailing platform's transition to electric vehicles, according to an internal memo.

Tinucci will start Sept. 16 as Uber's global head of sustainability, helping to oversee the company's transition to a zero-emission platform.

She will report to Andrew Macdonald, Uber's head of mobility, and will also oversee sustainable packaging partnerships.

In late April, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who had just returned to the U.S. from a trip to China, laid off the Tesla supercharger team.

Tinucci, then Tesla's senior director for charging infrastructure, left the company, and the entire supercharging team she led of about 500 people worldwide was disbanded.

Though in June some employees revealed that Tesla was rehiring some members of the supercharger team, with Max de Zegher, director of charging for North America, returning to the company in May.

But Tinucci, a former director of the team, was not rehired.
