Asia Tech Wire (Sep 12) -- The U.S. government is considering allowing Nvidia to export advanced chips to Saudi Arabia that would help the Asian country train and run the most powerful AI models, according to news site Semafor.

Semafor reported that sales of Nvidia's advanced chips to Saudi Arabia was the main unofficial topic at Saudi Arabia's global AI summit, known as GAIN, on Thursday.

Participants in this AI summit, which included some of those working for the Saudi Data & Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), told Semafor that Saudi Arabia is trying to comply with U.S. security requirements to expedite chip purchases.

The U.S. government implemented wide-ranging new measures against AI chip exports last year, restricting the export of AI chips made by companies like Nvidia to the Middle East to prevent them from falling into Chinese hands.
