Asia Tech Wire (Apr 9) -- Tesla Inc. has reached a settlement over a fatal crash involving an Apple engineer driving a Model X in its advanced driver assistance system Autopilot.
A court filing shows that Tesla has settled a lawsuit involving a 2018 crash that killed Apple engineer Walter Huang when the Model X he was driving in Autopilot mode swerved suddenly into an on-ramp barrier on a freeway near San Francisco.
Tesla reached a settlement with Huang's family on Monday, though a U.S. judge has yet to approve the settlement.
It is unclear how much compensation Tesla will provide, as well as details of other terms included in the settlement agreement.
The court handling the case will hold a follow-up hearing this Thursday to further discuss the agreement.
Meanwhile, the California Department of Transportation, the other defendant in the case, will have the opportunity to contest it.
