Asia Tech Wire (Aug 1) -- Microsoft on Tuesday identified ChatGPT owner OpenAI as a competitor for AI products as well as search and news advertising in its latest annual report.

Its list of competitors also includes companies such as Amazon, Google and Meta Platforms.

Last week, OpenAI released a prototype search engine called SearchGPT.

An OpenAI spokesperson said that nothing has changed in the relationship between the two companies and that Microsoft remains a good partner for OpenAI.

The spokesperson added that the two sides entered into the partnership with the understanding that there could be competition.
