Asia Tech Wire (July 25) -- The smartphone market in mainland China recovered further in the second quarter of 2024 after a rebound in the previous quarter, with shipments up 10% year-on-year to return to a level of 70 million units, according to a research report by Canalys.

The report shows that vivo's shipments grew 15% year-on-year, returning to the top of the Chinese smartphone market, with 13.1 million units shipped and a 19% market share thanks to its solid offline channels and its capture of demand during this year's 618 e-commerce festival.

OPPO, with the release of the Reno 12 series of new products, shipped 11.3 million units to hold the second seat.

Honor released the new 200 series and ranked third with 10.7 million units shipped, up 4% year-on-year.

Huawei saw a slight slowdown in growth after a bright performance in the last quarter, coming in fourth with 10.6 million units shipped.

Xiaomi pulled in brand exposure with the launch of its SU7 electric car, and its breakout K70 series and flagship 14 series continued their strong momentum, returning to the top five with 10 million units shipped and 17% year-over-year growth.

Apple retreated to sixth place in the shipment rankings, with a slight 2% year-on-year drop in market share to take 14% of the Chinese smartphone market.
