Asia Tech Wire (Aug 9) -- Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng Inc. has restructured its autonomous driving division to accelerate its AI-enabled organizational transformation.

According to multiple Chinese media reports, Xpeng has broken up its organizational structure and then reassembled it again, with the new structure focusing on end-to-end models in line with changes in the smart driving technology path.

The focus of this reorganization is the technology development department, which is Xpeng's algorithm development department, covering algorithm development for perception, planning, control, and localization.

After the restructuring, the technology development department was split into three divisions, focusing on AI end-to-end, AI applications, and AI energy efficiency.

Among them, the AI end-to-end division is responsible for end-to-end model development, and the AI application division is responsible for delivery.

This adjustment is equivalent to splitting the algorithm team into two, with one part going to AI models and one part going to delivery.

In this regard, Xpeng said, "The company's organizational restructuring of the autonomous driving department …… aims to accelerate the evolution of AI capabilities and the transformation of the organization into using AI."
