Asia Tech Wire (July 8) -- Chinese electric car maker Xpeng Inc. (9868.HK, NYSE: XPEV) has confirmed the departure of the head of its automotive technology center.

Earlier, news broke that Jiao Qingchun, Xpeng's vice president and former head of the Automotive Technology Centre, had left the company in early July.

In response, Xpeng said on Monday that the news was true and revealed that Jiao no longer holds any position in the company.

"Currently, Xpeng is also ready in terms of organizational structure, with a successor who has many years of experience in the field of technology expertise," the company said.

The Automotive Technology Centre is responsible for vehicle-related R&D, including embedded development, chassis, body, interior and exterior, and electronic and electrical architecture.

Following Jiao's departure, Yu Peng will become the head of the Automotive Technology Centre.

Yu joined Xpeng in 2015 and was an early employee of the company.
