Jul.18,2024

Asia Tech Wire (July 18) -- Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi regained the top spot in the Indian smartphone market in the second quarter of 2024, according to Canalys.

According to a report by Canalys, the Indian smartphone market grew marginally by 1% in the second quarter of 2024, totaling 36.4 million units shipped, amid various factors such as the Indian general elections, seasonal low demand and extreme weather in some regions.

The report said that amidst high inventory levels, some smartphone vendors continued to launch new models with higher prices, while others focused on reducing their existing inventory in order to optimize it ahead of a festival season.

And in the second quarter of this year, Xiaomi regained the top spot in the Indian smartphone market after six quarters, with 6.7 million units shipped and an 18% market share.

Xiaomi's Chinese counterpart vivo followed with 6.7 million units shipped, thanks to affordable 5G and mid-range models.

South Korea's Samsung ranked third with 6.1 million units shipped, while realme and OPPO (excluding OnePlus) rounded out the top five with 4.3 million and 4.2 million units shipped, respectively.
