Asian Tech Press (Dec 17) -- According to The Verge, General Motors has announced that Dan Ammann, CEO of Cruise, a self-driving car company that is a wholly-owned subsidiary of GM, is leaving the company. Kyle Vogt, co-founder and chief technology officer of Cruise, will take over as interim CEO.

Dan Ammann, 49, was president of General Motors, led its acquisition of Cruise in 2016 and became CEO of Cruise in 2019. His departure comes as the company prepares to receive permits and approvals to operate self-driving car services in San Francisco.

GM did not reveal the reason for Ammann's departure, saying only that he was leaving to "pursue other opportunities." A Cruise spokesperson declined to provide any additional comment.

GM acquired Cruise in 2016 to accelerate its self-driving car development program. Ammann, who was GM's president, oversaw the acquisition and later served as the company's chief executive.
