Asia Tech Wire (Oct 17) -- General Motors, Hon Hai and others will replace imports with local production, a Mexican official said.
General Motors and Hon Hai will announce plans later this month to swap imports for products made in Mexico, Mexico's Under Secretary of Economy Vidal Llerenas Morales said Wednesday.
Morales revealed that the Mexican government is also in talks with other large companies, such as DHL and Stellantis, to determine which products can be manufactured in Mexico.
Meanwhile, Morales said Intel has committed to replacing imports of some parts, such aheat sinks and thermal trays, at a rate of 12% with locally made parts in Mexico.
