Asia Tech Wire (Oct 22) -- Nvidia is in preliminary talks with India to jointly develop an artificial intelligence (AI) chip, according to The Economic Times.
Earlier this year, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang proposed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to jointly develop an AI chip.
Tuesday's report said Ashwini Vaishnaw, India's Minister of Railways, lnformation and Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology, confirmed the news.
Vaishnaw revealed that talks between the two sides are "at a preliminary stage."
Huang will be visiting India later this week to attend AI Summit 2024, which will take place on October 23-25 in Mumbai.
Nvidia said that at the upcoming AI conference in Mumbai, it will explore a number of important topics related to how to leverage the company's cutting-edge graphics processing units (GPUs) to build AI infrastructure, build foundational models for India's native languages, drive innovation in India's startup environment, and improve developer capabilities so that the country's workforce can be at the forefront of the AI field.
