Asian Tech Press (SEP 01)-- India's largest automaker Maruti Suzuki said Tuesday its car production will drop by about 60% in September due to chip shortages, joining the list of automakers forced to cut production due to shortages of key components due to the epidemic.
The company indicated in a regulatory filing that production at its two Indian plants in September could be only about 40% of its average level. 170,719 vehicles were produced by the company in July, compared with 165,576 units in June.
The Indian automaker did not say in its statement whether production after September would be affected.
Earlier this week, Maruti Suzuki announced a full range of price increases due to the increasing production cost.
