National Business Wire (Jan 8) -- A former vice president of Alibaba Cloud, the cloud services provider owned by Chinese tech giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (9988.HK), may jump into the AI industry, sources said.

A number of Chinese media outlets reported Monday that Alibaba Cloud vice president Chen Xuesong has left the company and may be entering the AI sector.

Chen joined Alibaba Cloud in 2022, responsible for business lines related to the digital government division.

Prior to joining Alibaba Cloud, Chen was senior vice president of Megvii Technology, a Chinese AI company that the U.S. has added to its export and investment blacklists, where he oversaw the expansion of its intelligent security business.

So far, Alibaba Cloud has not confirmed Chen's departure.

However, Chen's tenure at Alibaba Cloud ended in December 2023, lasting one year and seven months, according to an update on Maimai, a China-based career and social-networking platform, better known as Chinese LinkedIn.
