EU said to charge Meta with breaching digital rules
Jul.1,2024

Asia Tech Wire (July 1) -- The European Union will charge Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc. with violating its landmark digital rules, according to the Financial Times.

Just a week ago, the EU filed a similar lawsuit against Apple.

Citing people familiar with the matter, the report said that in its preliminary findings, to be released this week, regulators will say they have concerns about Meta's "pay-or-consent" model.

Facebook and Instagram users currently have the option of using the social networks for free if they consent to data collection, or paying not to have their data shared.
