Asia Tech Wire (July 31) -- A massive food poisoning outbreak at the Singapore office of TikTok owner ByteDance on Tuesday afternoon, resulted in the hospitalization of nearly 60 people, according to The Straits Times.
At least 30 officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), two fire engines, a mass decontamination vehicle and an ambulance remained on the scene after ByteDance employees reported symptoms of abdominal pain and vomiting, the report said.
SCDF said a total of 17 ambulances were dispatched to the compan's office site at One Raffles Quay.
As of Tuesday, 57 of the 60 employees who showed symptoms of gastroenteritis had gone to hospital, Singapore authorities said.
Local media also reported that the people had consumed food from the same source.
ByteDance reportedly hired licensed outside vendors to provide catering services within its offices.
A ByteDance spokesperson responded by saying that the company is working with the relevant authorities to investigate the matter.
The spokesperson said, "We take the health and safety of our employees very seriously and have taken immediate steps to support all affected employees, including working with emergency services to provide care."
