Asia Tech Wire (Sep 2) -- Apple and OpenAI have ordered cutting-edge A16 chips from TSMC, according to Taiwan's Economic Daily News.

In addition to major customer Apple, ChatGPT developer OpenAI has also pre-ordered the chip from TSMC through its chip design firms Broadcom and Marvell, the report said, citing industry sources.

TSMC is due to start mass production of A16 chips in the second half of 2026, the sources said.
