Asia Tech Wire (Aug 14) -- TSMC's U.S. plant has not produced a single chip in 4 years, the New York Times said in an article.

Since May 2020, when the first announced to set up a factory in the U.S., TSMC has been successively planning to build three factories in Arizona, with a cumulative investment of up to $65 billion, the largest foreign direct investment project in the history of the U.S.

But 4 years have passed, TSMC's Arizona plant has not yet produced any semiconductor products, the report pointed out.

Not only TSMC, South Korean battery maker LG Energy Solution (LGES) and Italian energy giant Enel have also shelved their investment projects in the U.S.

According to the Financial Times, as much as $84 billion worth of manufacturing projects worth more than $100 million were either delayed or put on indefinite hold in the year following the implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act and CHIPS Act in the U.S., accounting for 40% of the total.

The main reasons for changing plans include the deteriorating economic environment, weak market demand, and policy uncertainty brought about by the U.S. presidential election session.
