Asia Tech Wire (Aug 12) -- Vitamin A prices soared over 160% in China after a fire at a BASF plant.
On July 29, an explosion and fire occurred at a chemical plant of German chemical giant BASF.
BASF later informed that the incident had an impact on the production of vitamins and other products at the plant.
As an important supplier of vitamins globally, this fire at the BASF plant also directly affected the quotes for vitamins in China.
From BASF fire at the end of July, until now, less than 1 month, some of China's vitamin categories have seen price increases of more than 100%.
Among them, on August 9, the market price of vitamin A reached 225 yuan ($31.49) per kilogram, up 139 yuan per kilogram from early July, an increase of more than 160%.
