Asia Tech Wire (Aug 12) -- Chinese display makers drove a 63% year-on-year increase in shipments of 85-inch and larger panels in 2023, and are due to grow 35% year-on-year in 2024, according to a report by market research firm Omdia.
Demand for 85-inch, 98-inch and 100-inch panels rose in the second half of the first quarter of 2024, with mainland China's first-tier TV makers accounting for the larger share.
Since the middle of the first quarter of 2024, display makers have had more advantageous bargaining chips in panel prices and raised prices for 85-inch panels.
However, entering the second half of the second quarter of 2024, the demand for panels slowed down, and TV makers were eager to ask display makers to make concessions on panel prices, as they were facing the dual pressures of rising panel prices and soaring transportation costs.
