Vietnam's demand for Korean companies to contribute to vaccine fund draws discontent
Jun.4,2021

According to industry news on the 4th, the Vietnamese government has sparked controversy by asking local Korean companies to contribute to the Covid-19 Vaccine Fund project.

The Vietnamese government recently asked local Korean companies and cell phone users to participate in the vaccine fund collection and notify the collection account via phone or SMS. An employee of a Korean company said that according to Vietnamese officials, even if they contribute money to participate in the vaccine fund, there is no guarantee that the company's employees will be able to get vaccinated. This approach by the Vietnamese government makes it even more difficult for the company when it is in a challenging business situation due to the epidemic. Vietnam-based public institutions are no exception. A source from a public institution said that it had expressed difficulties with the request, but the Vietnamese side repeatedly asked for it.

The Vietnamese government recently announced that it will set up a Covid-19 vaccine fund to buy 150 million doses of vaccines, with $1.1 billion to be raised by private companies. According to local sources, none of the local foreign companies, including Korean companies, have officially participated in it. (Yonhap News Agency)
