Asian Tech Press (Aug 30)-- Toyota Motor released data showing that global sales rose 14% year-on-year to 858,000 units in July, the 11th consecutive month of year-on-year growth.
North America-centric SUV sales were strong, surpassing the 849,000 units sold in July 2019 before the epidemic, a record high for the same period.
Toyota said, "Although the shortage of semiconductors has affected production, the impact is limited."
Global production rose 11 percent to 773,000 vehicles in July, the company said. Domestic production in Japan rose 21 percent to 309,000 units. Expanding outbreaks in Malaysia and Vietnam weighed on operations, but output in China was strong, up 9 percent to 232,000 units.
