SoftBank's Vision Fund invests in African business for the first time

Nigerian startup OPay has raised $400 million from SoftBank Group's Vision Fund and others. OPay has an enterprise valuation of $2 billion. This is the first time Vision Fund has invested in an African business.

A Bloomberg report said that in addition to Vision Fund No. 2, companies such as Sequoia China Investment Management LLP and Meituan are involved. OPay's chief executive officer CEO is the founder of the Chinese online gaming company Kunlun Tech.

OPay said that the company provides a platform for services, including mobile payments and food shopping, and has millions of users. The monthly settlement is reportedly more than $3 billion, with plans to enter the Middle East market in addition to Africa.
