Asian Tech Press (Dec 15)-- Two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine are inadequate against the Omicron variant, and a third dose is recommended as soon as possible, according to research released Tuesday by the University of Hong Kong (HKU).
The study was done by the Department of Microbiology at HKU. And the results showed that most individuals who received two doses of Pfizer-BioNTech or China-made Sinovac vaccine did not develop sufficient levels of serum antibodies against the Omicron variant.
The study said the public is advised to get a third dose of the vaccine as soon as possible while waiting for a more matched next-generation vaccine.
