Asia Tech Wire (July 18) -- Chinese electric car maker BYD will launch three more models in the Vietnamese market in October, according to Reuters.
BYD launched its first three all-electric models in Vietnam on Thursday, the report said.
The Chinese firm is selling the compact hatchback Dolphin, compact crossover Atto 3 and mid-size sedan Seal in Vietnam, and has been accepting bookings since June.
BYD will officially open 13 retail stores in Vietnam starting Saturday.
Vo Minh Luc, BYD Vietnam's chief operating officer, said on Thursday that the automaker plans to expand its dealerships in Vietnam to 100 by 2026.
Meanwhile, Luc revealed that BYD is in consultation with a number of localities in Vietnam to optimize its plan to build a factory in the country.
"Vietnam is the last market BYD sets foot in in the Asia-Pacific region and is an important market in this region," Luc claimed.
Earlier this month, BYD inaugurated its Thailand plant. And this week, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet confirmed that the Chinese automaker plans to build an electric vehicle assembly plant in the country with an estimated capacity of 20,000 units per year.
And in early May, Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha met BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu in Hanoi for talks on matters related to electric vehicles.
Wang said at the time that he hoped Vietnam would provide favorable conditions for BYD to complete the investment process, so that it could quickly invest in electric vehicles in Vietnam and sell them locally and in other Southeast Asian markets.
