Asia Tech Wire (Sep 4) -- Brazil is actively promoting mandatory certification of electric vehicle charging stations as sales in the electric vehicle market increase dramatically.
Recently, WEG became the first company to receive voluntary certification from the Brazilian National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (Inmetro) in relation to the ABNT NBR IEC 61851-1:2021 standard, which addresses conductive charging systems for electric vehicles. It is valid for six years.
In addition to Inmetro certification, WEG said its stations have additional certifications, including ANATEL, CE (Europe), UKCA (United Kingdom), EV Ready 2.0, CB Scheme (IEC 61851-1), ULM-NOM (Mexico), SEC (Chile), UNIT (Uruguay), and RETIE (Colombia).
These certifications ensure that the products meet national and international standards, guaranteeing safety and compatibility in global markets, said WEG.
The Brazilian federal government expects the number of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) in the country to grow from the current 120,000 to more than one million by 2030.
