Asian Tech Press (Nov 09) -- Cainiao Smart Logistics Network Limited, Alibaba Group's logistics subsidiary, established its first smart logistics hub at Liege Airport in Belgium.

The smart hub is a key component of an agreement signed in 2018 between Alibaba Group and the Belgian government to join the global Electronic World Trade Platform (eWTP) initiative, which aims to reduce barriers to global trade for small and medium-sized businesses through e-commerce. The smart hub's construction began in late 2019. It provides Belgian traders with a new direct link to new markets.

The 30,000-square-meter facility is divided into two sections: a 12,000-square-meter air cargo station for rapid transit of goods for both export and import between the airport's airside and landside, and an 18,000-square-meter parcel sorting center that organizes parcels according to their destinations throughout Europe.

The facility is outfitted with cutting-edge digital technology and is intended to simplify terminal operations by digitizing the flow of commodities between China and European countries.
