Xiaomi eyes stronger cooperation with Africa in NEVs, other emerging areas, Lei says

Asia Tech Wire (Sep 6) -- Xiaomi founder, chairman and CEO Lei Jun said the Chinese tech company hopes to strengthen cooperation with Africa in emerging areas such as new energy vehicles (NEVs).

The 8th Conference of Chinese and African Entrepreneurs took place in Beijing on Friday, an important supporting event for the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Speaking at the conference, Lei said Xiaomi is already operating in 16 African countries, including Egypt, South Africa, Nigeria, Morocco, Algeria and Kenya, under a series of China-Africa cooperation initiatives, and will increase its investment in the continent in the next step.

Lei also said that Xiaomi hopes to have the opportunity to strengthen cooperation with African enterprises in various emerging industries, including new energy vehicles.
