Asia Tech Wire (July 1) -- Shenzhen-based tech firm UBTECH Robotics (9880.HK) has entered into a partnership with a Volkswagen joint venture in China, according to Chinese media outlet Cailianshe.
Sources familiar with the matter said that UBTECH's Beijing subsidiary has recently entered into a partnership with FAW-Volkswagen on humanoid robots.
The two parties will jointly explore the in-depth application of humanoid robots in the industrial scenario of automobile manufacturing, and create highly intelligent and flexible production lines and automobile super unmanned factories.
FAW-Volkswagen will open its production line in Qingdao to UBTECH and introduce Walker S, an industrial version of the humanoid robot, to carry out bolt tightening, parts installation, parts transfer and other tasks in the automotive manufacturing process.
Currently, UBTECH Walker S is already on the production floor of Chinese automakers such as Nio for on-site "training".
