(Asian Tech Press) The U.S. Federal Communications Commission voted unanimously to further hit Chinese tech companies Huawei and ZTE, according to Reuters.

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted unanimously Thursday for a plan to ban the installation of equipment from five Chinese companies in U.S. telecommunications networks on the grounds of national security threats.

The ban would be imposed on Chinese tech giants Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., ZTE Corporation, Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Dahua Technology Co., Ltd. and two-way radio maker Hytera Communications Corp. Ltd. Among them, cameras made by Hikvision and Dahua are commonly used in U.S. schools and local government facilities.

The report mentions that the proposed ban is subject to a final vote, and there is still a review period.

Under this plan, the FCC could also revoke equipment licenses already issued to these Chinese companies, according to the report. The FCC has issued more than 3,000 equipment licenses to Huawei alone since 2018.

In response to the news, Hytera insiders said that the news has been received and is currently being evaluated. Whether and how the company will respond will be determined based on the results of the assessment.
