Asian Tech Press -- Toyota Motor Corp, one of the leading sponsors of the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics, has decided not to air Olympics-related TV commercials in Japan, Yomiuri Shimbun reported.
The Japanese automotive manufacture announced it on Monday.
Osamu Nagata, executive vice president of the company, responded to the media online. He said the ad had been prepared to convey Toyota's attitude toward the Olympics, but it will not be aired.
Toyota officials, including Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda, will also not attend the opening ceremony and other events. Mr. Nagata said, " It is becoming an Olympics where many things are not understood. "
Meanwhile, Toyota will provide a total of 3,340 cars, including cars to transport officials, to help host the Olympics. Of these, 90% will be electric vehicles, such as the Mirai fuel cell vehicle (FCV) and the e-Palette, an electric vehicle (EV) with self-driving capabilities to help reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
