Asia Tech Wire (Nov 4) -- Toyota Motor announced Sunday that it will make additional investments in the future to increase production of electric and hybrid vehicle batteries in North America.
Sean Suggs, president of Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina, a battery manufacturing subsidiary of Toyota, said in an interview that Toyota plans to increase its U.S. electric and hybrid vehicle battery production capacity and is considering building another plant in the U.S.
Electric and hybrid vehicles account for half of Toyota's U.S. sales, and the company plans to increase that to 80% by 2030.
Toyota is building a $13.9 billion battery plant in the southern U.S. state of North Carolina.
Suggs said additional investments may occur in other locations depending on local demand for cars.
