SpaceX, Brazilian govt discuss deal to provide rural Internet, monitor Amazon

Asian Tech Press (Nov 17) -- The Brazilian government has signed an agreement with SpaceX, a space exploration technology company, to use Starlink satellite technology to provide Internet services at low altitudes to rural and remote areas of Brazil and to help monitor fires and illegal logging in the Amazon rainforest, the Brazilian Ministry of Transportation said, according to media reports.

On Monday, Brazilian Transportation Minister Fabio Faria met with Elon Musk in Austin, Texas to discuss how SpaceX and Starlink can help monitor illegal logging in the Amazon rainforest while providing Internet connectivity to schools and medical centers in remote areas.
