This week, SK Hynix announced that the company has been producing LPDDR5 DRAM modules for smartphones and other devices since March of this year.
Due to SoC-level limitations, LPDDR5 DRAM is mainly used in high-end Android phones, with its higher bandwidth/speed providing high-quality video playback recording and smooth mobile games.
Compared to LPDDR4's maximum 5500Mbps, LPDDR5's bandwidth is boosted to 6400Mbps/MHz, increasing 16%. SK Hynix is also starting to supply products with up to 18GB capacities.
According to statistical agency Omdia's forecast, LPDDR5 DRAM currently accounts for about 10% of the market and will rise to more than 50% by 2023.
SK Hynix will also manufacture 1a nm DRAM chips and introduce EUV lithography to improve efficiency and manufacturing precision.
