Panasonic Energy, Mazda to prepare for supply of automotive lithium-ion batteries

Asia Tech Wire (Sep 6) -- Japan's Panasonic Energy and Mazda Motor will work together to prepare for the supply of automotive lithium-ion batteries.

Panasonic Energy and Mazda jointly announced Friday that they will prepare for the supply of next-generation cylindrical automotive lithium-ion batteries, which will feature in Mazda's battery electric vehicles (BEVs) that it plans to launch after 2027.

As part of the collaboration, Panasonic Energy aims to increase its production capacity and plans to produce cylindrical lithium-ion batteries, which will be modularly packaged by Mazda, at its Suminoe and Kaizuka plants in Osaka from 2027.

Panasonic Energy plans to reach an annual capacity of 10GWh for this collaboration in Japan by 2030.
