Asia Tech Wire (Sep 4) -- ChatGPT owner OpenAI is considering investing tens of billions of dollars in the U.S. on AI infrastructure, according to Bloomberg.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's plan to attract global investors to support the building of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure is becoming clearer, with the focus first on launching in U.S. states, and is due to cost tens of billions of dollars, the report said, citing a person familiar with the matter.

The types of projects under discussion include building data centers, increasing energy capacity and transmission through turbines and generators, and expanding semiconductor manufacturing, the person said.

Backers could include investors from Canada, South Korea, Japan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

OpenAI also expects other private companies to participate in the project. And Microsoft, OpenAI's largest investor, could be a potential partner.
