Asia Tech Wire (Nov 5) -- OpenAI is in early talks with the California Attorney General's Officeabout a process to change the company's structure, seeking to transform the nonprofit organization's structure to a for-profit nature, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
Monday's report said regulators are likely to launch detailed reviews of how OpenAI values its intellectual property portfolio, including ChatGPT.
Also, the Attorney General of Delaware has been in communication about OpenAI's shift from nonprofit to for-profit.
The ChatGPT developer declined to comment on such news, according to the report.
However, OpenAI said in a statement, "Any potential restructuring would ensure the nonprofit continues to exist and thrive, and receives full value for its current stake in the OpenAI for-profit with an enhanced ability to pursue its mission."
