OpenAI holds off on GPT-5 release due to limited computing capacity
Nov.5,2024

Asia Tech Wire (Nov 5) -- OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently revealed that the company is unable to launch new products at the expected frequency due to limited computing capacity.

He explained that as AI models have become increasingly complex, the company has struggled to handle numerous projects at once, and has faced challenges in allocating computing resources in particular.

Altman confirmed that OpenAI will not be releasing its next large AI model, GPT-5, this year, but instead plans to release some very good versions at a later date.

Kevin Weil, OpenAI's chief product officer, emphasized that the company needs to refine the model to ensure security, simulation, and other aspects of accuracy, as well as scale computation, before moving forward with the next major upgrade to its video model, Sora.
