Asian Tech Press (Oct 19) -- Japanese automaker Suzuki Motor will start exporting made-in-India electric cars to Japan as early as 2025, Nikkei reported on Wednesday.
Suzuki will set up a new production line at a plant in the western Indian state of Gujarat, where its subsidiary Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. will produce electric cars next fall, the report said.
In August, there were reports that Maruti Suzuki was planning to launch six electric cars by 2030, each of which would go into production at the Gujarat plant.
The production line will also make gasoline cars and has an expected annual capacity of 250,000 units.
The electric vehicles Suzuki plans to export to Japan will be small SUVs at a price of around 3 million yen to 4 million yen.
According to Nikkei, in an effort to make India its global EV manufacturing center, Suzuki will also consider supplying India-made EVs to its partner Toyota and selling them under the Toyota brand in the European market.
