Japan's July air cargo exports soar 81% year-on-year
Aug.23,2021

According to data released by the Japan Aircargo Forwarders Association, Japan's air cargo exports were 98,685,000 tons in July, up 81% year-on-year and increasing for the eighth consecutive month. It was also 29% higher compared to July 2019 before the epidemic.

The overall growth was driven by a 1.3-fold year-on-year increase in U.S. destined air cargo exports. Previously, demand for air cargo shipments tended to increase from September to November, with lower volumes from July to August. This year there have been movements to avoid the continued chaos of container ship ocean freight in favor of air cargo.

Air cargo exports to Asia also increased significantly, with exports to Thailand up 1.3 times year-on-year, the Philippines up 1.2 times and Singapore up 1.4 times. Exports to China, Asia's largest market, also grew 65% year-over-year.

Air cargo exports to Europe also remained strong, with exports to Germany doubling and exports to the UK increasing by 93%.
