Asian Tech Press (Jan 21) -- According to Nikkei, the size of the Japanese home-use game console market in 2021 decreased by 1.6% compared to the previous year, to 361.3 billion yen. Sales of hardware devices grew for the second consecutive year, but game software sales grew weakly.
According to the report, Japan's home-use game console hardware sales increased by 9.3% year-on-year to 202.8 billion yen, while game software fell 12.8% to 158.5 billion yen. Nintendo Switch sold 5.57 million units of 3 models combined in terms of hardware, topping the list for five consecutive years. On the other hand, affected by the global semiconductor shortage, Sony PlayStationPS5 has a supply shortage and is expected to sell only 960,000 units.
