Asia Tech Wire (June 24) -- Great Wall Motors, the Chinese maker of the Ora Good Cat compact electric car, plans to build new factories in Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam this year or next.
According to the Business Times, Cheng Jinkui, president of Great Wall Motor's ASEAN operations, disclosed the plans in an interview with it.
Cheng revealed that Great Wall Motor is working with Malaysia's EP Manufacturing to assemble its products in Malacca, which is due to go into operation in July at the earliest.
At the same time, the assembly plant in Indonesia is due to go into production in July or August this year.
As planned, Great Wall Motor will realize local assembly at its Vietnam plant next year.
Cheng said the company believes its investment in ASEAN is still at an early stage and expects to make more progress.
