Asia Tech Wire (Oct 17) -- Global semiconductor sales in August were $53.12 billion, an increase of 20.6% year-on-year, according to data released by the U.S. Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).

The amount was the highest ever for a single month of data in August.

Driven by demand related to generative AI (artificial intelligence), global semiconductor sales exceeded the previous year for the 10th consecutive month.

By region, sales in the Americas were $16.56 billion, up 43.9% year-on-year, driving overall growth.

And sales in Europe were $4.26 billion, down 9.0% year-over-year, $4.0 billion in Japan, up 2.0% year-over-year, and $15.48 billion in China, up 19.2% year-over-year.

Asia Pacific and other regions, excluding Japan and China, saw year-over-year growth of 17.1% to $12.82 billion.
