Asian Tech Press (Dec 29) -- Apple supplier Foxconn said the company is restructuring management at its Sriperumbudur plant in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, after discovering problems with some of its workers' dormitory facilities.

Foxconn apologized for the incident and promised to improve its management and operations in India after an employee food poisoning incident. An Apple spokesperson said, "In light of recent concerns following food safety and accommodation conditions at Foxconn's Sriperumbudur facility, we sent independent auditors to conduct an additional detailed assessment and found that some of the remote dormitory accommodations and dining room conditions did not meet requirements, for which Apple is working with suppliers to ensure prompt implementation of comprehensive corrective measures. "

Foxconn is restructuring its local management team and systems, and says all employees will continue to be paid while the necessary corrections are made to restart operations, and support is provided for employees to return to work. Foxconn has agreed to expand its living quarters, upgrade bathing facilities, provide drinking water to meet the needs of its employees, and will resume operations soon.
