BOE to Produce 15-inch OLED Displays for Future Apple iPads
Jan.10,2022

Asian Tech Press (Jan 10) -- Apple supplier BOE recently revamped one of its factories in China to produce larger OLED displays for devices other than smartphones, including tablets and computers, according to the South Korean website The Elec.

BOE is likely aiming to provide OLED displays for future iPads after becoming a supplier of iPhone 13 displays last year. The repurposed plant will produce displays up to 15 inches, but it remains to be seen whether Apple will release a 15-inch iPad.

The report added that the plant would have the ability to make OLED displays with two layers of red, green, and blue-emitting layers, which would give future iPads a significantly brighter display. However, it remains to be seen whether BOE will succeed in commercializing these panels due to the complexity of the technology.

Currently, Apple sources OLED displays for iPhones from Samsung and LG. Still, it often tries to diversify its supply chain to reduce the risk of relying on a single supplier and to ensure competitive pricing.
