Asian Tech Press (Dec 20) -- Apple's M2 chip will reportedly be made by Taiwanese foundry giant TSMC's 4nm process and will be launched in the second half of 2022 at the earliest.
Citing supply chain sources, Taiwan's Commercial Times newspaper reported on Monday that the development of Apple's M2 chip is nearly complete and will be mass-produced using TSMC's 4nm process, and its own processor Apple Silicon will be upgraded every 18 months in the future.
Apple's Mac series of personal computers will be adjusted into six product lines after 2022. And laptops will be divided into MacBook with the M2 processor and MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and M2 Max. All-in-one products will be divided into iMac with the M2 processor and iMac Pro with M2 Pro and M2 Max. And the desktop products include the Mac mini with the M2 processor and the Mac Pro with the M2 Pro and M2 Max.
According to the report, Apple's M2 chip are expected to be launched in the second half of 2022, and M2 Pro and M2 Max are expected to be launched in the first half of 2023.
The processors in Apple's M2 series all use TSMC's 4nm process and will be updated to the M3 chip after the 18-month cycle, which are expected to be mass produced using TSMC's 3nm process.
