Airbus announces cooperation on hydrogen infrastructure in Japan

Asia Tech Wire (Oct 18) -- Airbus, Kansai Airports and Kawasaki Heavy Industries have announced cooperation on establishing hydrogen infrastructure in Japan.

The three companies signed a memorandum of understanding on Friday to study the feasibility of establishing hydrogen infrastructure at three airports in Japan's Kansai region - Kansai International Airport, Osaka International Airport and Kobe Airport.

According to the memorandum, the three parties will conduct a preliminary feasibility study to introduce and operate hydrogen aircraft as part of Airbus' "Hydrogen Hub at Airports" programme, and strengthen cooperation to realize the supply of hydrogen to aircraft at the three airports.

In 2020, Airbus unveiled the first ZEROe concepts with the ambition to bring to market the world's first hydrogen-powered commercial aircraft by 2035.
