Asian Tech Press (Nov 04) -- Xiaomi will start producing smartphones in Pakistan from January 2022, according to gizmochina. Xiaomi aims to produce up to 3 million smartphones per year in its Pakistani manufacturing facility, with expected revenues of about $450 million from Xiaomi's Pakistani operations.

Xiaomi's local partner, Air Link Communication Limited, filed key details with the Pakistan Stock Exchange this week. The manufacturing arrangement is between Xiaomi and Select Technologies (Pvt) Limited, a subsidiary of Air Link Communication Limited. Select Technologies will act as Xiaomi's manufacturing partner in Pakistan, focusing on the production of cell phones. Select Technologies will be responsible for manufacturing certain brands of mobile devices. Xiaomi may not end up being the only brand manufactured by Select Technologies.

Air Link Communication Limited said it targets an annual production target of 2.5 million to 3 million units. The new investment will have a significant incremental impact on the company's financial outlook.

Revenue from the new Xiaomi smartphone manufacturing is expected to be $450 million per year. The manufacturing facility is located close to the Air Link cell phone manufacturing facility in Lahore. Air Link will continue to have a large share of the Xiaomi smartphone distribution chain in Pakistan, and its new manufacturing facility will further strengthen its position in the market.
