Asia Tech Wire (May 21) -- The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will investigate a fatal crash involving an electric car made by Vietnamese firm VinFast.
The NHTSA said Monday that it will investigate a crash involving a VinFast VF 8 electric car that killed a family of four in Pleasanton, California, in April of this year.
The investigation will cover the circumstances of the crash and the fire that followed.
Founded in 2017, VinFast is an electric vehicle division of Vingroup JSC (VIC), Vietnam's largest conglomerate.
The Vietnamese automaker began delivering electric cars in California in March 2023, and has gone public on the Nasdaq late last August.
