U.S. House votes to ban new DJI drones in U.S. market

Asia Tech Wire (Sep 10) -- The U.S. House of Representatives voted on Monday to block new drones produced and sold by Chinese drone maker DJI from operating in the U.S., according to Reuters.

The U.S. Senate has not yet approved the bill, so it cannot yet take effect.

Notably, the bill would not prevent the use of existing DJI drones in the U.S.

However, Frank Pallone, a Democratic member of the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce, said that through legislative action, the U.S. Congress will ensure that DJI's new drones cannot be imported and sold in the U.S.

Reuters reported that the drones sold by DJI account for more than half of the U.S. market.

DJI has voiced its opposition to the bill, noting that it "restricts the ability of U.S. drone operators to buy and use the right equipment for their work, solely on the basis of the equipment's country of origin."
